PRAYER FOR THIS COUNTRY

Praise Points

Lord Jesus, we thank You for preserving a remnant of faithful believers in Yemen even amid war and persecution. “So too, at the present time there is a remnant chosen by grace” (Romans 11:5).

Abba Father, we praise You for the gift of radio and digital Bibles that secretly bring Your Word to households where churches cannot exist. “So then faith comes by hearing, and hearing by the Word of Christ” (Romans 10:17).

Almighty God, we thank You for the courage of Christians who continue to worship and share Your Truth in secret, risking their lives for Your Name. “Be on your guard; stand firm in the faith; be courageous; be strong” (1 Corinthians 16:13).

Prayer Points

Sovereign Lord, we pray for an end to the devastating civil war that has ravaged Yemen, torn apart families, and destroyed livelihoods. “He makes wars cease to the ends of the earth” (Psalm 46:9).

God of justice, we cry out against the Houthis and other persecutors who oppress, imprison, and kill Christians for their faith. Deliver Your people from their hand. “The Lord is a refuge for the oppressed, a stronghold in times of trouble” (Psalm 9:9).

Abba Father, have mercy on Yemen as famine grips its people, leaving children malnourished and families desperate. Provide food and hope in the wilderness. “He gives food to every creature. His love endures forever” (Psalm 136:25).

A Call to Salvation

Lord Jesus, strengthen Christian families to teach their children secretly but faithfully, ensuring the Gospel is not lost in Yemen’s next generation. “These commandments that I give you today are to be on your hearts. Impress them on your children” (Deuteronomy 6:6–7).

Heavenly Father, grant Yemeni believers endurance in suffering and boldness to stand firm in their witness, even when threatened. “If we endure, we will also reign with Him” (2 Timothy 2:12).

Holy Father, unite Yemen’s underground church in love and faith so that their unity may testify to Christ amid darkness. “Make every effort to keep the unity of the Spirit through the bond of peace” (Ephesians 4:3).

MORE ABOUT THIS COUNTRY

The Arabian Peninsula country of Yemen has a rich but troubled history shaped by ancient kingdoms like Saba and Himyar, its role in the spice and incense trade, and later Islamic conquest in the 7th century, which left Christianity nearly erased. Colonization and foreign influence gave way to the modern Republic of Yemen in 1990. Still, since 2014, the nation has engaged in a horrific civil war between the Houthi movement (a Shiite rebel group backed by Iran) and forces aligned with the internationally recognized government, supported by a Saudi-led coalition.

Hundreds of thousands have lost their lives in this brutal war, millions have been displaced, and the country has been left in one of the world’s worst humanitarian crises, marked by famine and the collapse of health systems. Yemen’s culture is deeply tribal, rooted in poetry, music, strong family traditions, and the prized coffee trade. Christianity once thrived before Islam but returned only in small ways through Catholic missionaries, Protestant educators, and medical workers in the 19th and 20th centuries. Today, however, Christians—especially converts from Islam—face severe persecution, most intensely from Houthi authorities who monitor, arrest, torture, and in some cases execute those accused of apostasy.

Churches cannot exist openly. Christian Believers are forced to worship secretly in homes. Yet it does not prevent discovery by raiding militias on occasion. Yemeni Christian teenagers live under crushing fear, enduring war trauma, poverty, and pressure to deny their faith to avoid violence. The Yemeni people suffer from famine, displacement, and the breakdown of family and education. Yet, hope survives through secret house fellowships and radio Bible broadcasts that provide hidden lifelines of truth.

For Christianity to endure in Yemen, believers must embrace biblical changes: holding firmly to Christ through endurance, practicing unity and sacrificial love in underground communities, raising their children in the Word despite fear, and rejecting compromise with surrounding pressures, so the Gospel is not lost among Christian families.

MORE ABOUT THIS COUNTRY

Vietnam, a nation with a long and resilient history, has endured centuries of struggle—from Chinese dynasties to French colonization, the Vietnam War, and modern Communist governance. Its culture is profoundly shaped by Confucianism, Buddhism, and ancestor veneration, emphasizing family honor, respect for elders, and community harmony. Christianity arrived in the 16th century through Catholic missionaries like Alexandre de Rhodes, a Jesuit priest who created the modern Vietnamese alphabet and translated the Bible into the local language. Protestant missions followed in the 20th century, spreading especially among ethnic minorities such as the Hmong and Montagnards.

Today, Vietnam’s Christian teenagers live under immense pressure. Many face social rejection, bullying, and exclusion from their families when they declare their faith in Christ. The government imposes legal obstacles to worship, closely monitoring church gatherings and restricting religious activities, especially among unregistered congregations. In rural areas, persecution and forced renunciations of faith remain common. At the same time, inter-church division between Catholic and Protestant communities weakens the Church’s witness.

Vietnam’s Church is under threat not only from state control but also from spiritual apathy and the fear of losing freedom or family acceptance. To prevent Christianity from diminishing among Christian families, believers must hold fast to unity (Ephesians 4:3), faith under persecution (1 Peter 4:12–13), and family discipleship (Deuteronomy 6:6–7). They must choose courage over comfort, forgiveness over bitterness, and truth over silence—reflecting Christ’s love even in hardship.
