Somalia’s Al Shabab Militants Murder Children in Somalia

Somalia has faced all the following challenges in 2021: Drought, a locust infestation, and numerous terrorist attacks by Al Shabab. In recent months Al Shabab attacked a convoy of security personnel that guards United Nations staff. Later they attacked soldiers sent by the African Union Mission in Somalia (AMISOM). At 7:30 am on November 25, Al Shabab stooped to a new low when they set off explosives at a school. The explosion killed eight children and injured 17.

Omar S. Mahmood, the senior Somalia analyst with the International Crisis Group, describes Al Shabab’s attacks as being “opportunistic.” Somali officials warn that when the African Union peacekeeping force withdraws on December 31, 2021, Al Shabab might find their opportunity to take over the Somali government.

Let us pray fervently for:

  • Justice to prevail and for this fledgling democracy to withstand  the threats against its stability (The Bible, Proverbs 21:15).
  • President Saied to heed the international outcry against his return to autocratic policies (The Bible, 1 Timothy 2:1-4).
  • The minority Christian community to unite in prayer to Almighty God to intervene in the affairs of men to deter efforts to undermine this fragile democracy (The Bible, Isaiah 59:15-17).
  • Members of Al Shabab who committed these horrific crimes to be found by law enforcement officers and punished for these atrocities. Pray for the Lord to comfort the families who lost their precious children. (The Bible, 2 Corinthians 1:5)
  • The Lord to meet the need of Somalis for peace and security. (The Bible, Isaiah 9:6-7)
  • The people of Somalia to meet and embrace Jesus Christ, the only One Who can help them. (The Bible, John 14:6)
