Bringing God's Holy Fire to the Land of Fire

When one thinks of Azerbaijan, they often think of fire. Natural gas leaks cause fires to burn nonstop in many places. For over 1,000 years, travelers and locals have both been fascinated and fearful of this phenomenon. Fire is also a key symbolic element in Azerbaijan’s ancient Zoroastrian religion, which Shia Islam has replaced. What a thrill it would be if God’s Holy Fire burned in this country!

Some people are trying to make this happen. Christ’s ambassadors are using several methods to introduce Azerbaijanis to the One who wants the Holy Spirit fire to burn in every heart. Some use local arts to open doors. Everyone loves the art that defines them as a people. When outsiders also appreciate it, it builds bridges of friendship, goodwill, and trust. The Eternal Gospel can be presented through traditional art forms, making it more understandable. Most Gospel workers must present the message of Christ from outside this closed country. Therefore, social media is an essential tool for those who want to spread the Gospel to the people of Azerbaijan.

Before anything can happen, there must be a foundation of prayer. Eyes will not be opened unless the Holy Spirit moves in their hearts. Prayer breaks through spiritual barriers!

Let us pray fervently for:

  • The Lord to stop the flow of arms for gold, which aids belligerents in Sudan’s war (The Bible, Habakkuk 1:1-5).
  • The Lord to cast down those who refuse to repent and install leaders who are willing to protect the innocent (The Bible, Psalm 37:9).
  • Pray for the innocent people of Sudan to have their needs met by the mighty hand of God while those who oppress them go empty-handed (The Bible, Psalm 23:5).
