Moken Sea Gypsies Can Become Natural Evangelists!

Myanmar persecution ranking: 14

The unreached Moken people are nicknamed the “sea gypsies” of the Andaman Sea for a reason. They are nomads who travel by water. For decades they have been an unreached people group in just about all Southeast Asian countries where they reside, including Myanmar. Now there has been a breakthrough! The Christianized Karen people have recently baptized hundreds of Mokens.

Now comes the hard part. The Moken people need a complete Bible translation that they can easily understand. Bible translation work is incomplete. Furthermore, new believers always need discipleship so they can live victorious lives in the ways of Jesus Christ. Like all peoples in Myanmar, it will be very difficult for them to not lash out when they are persecuted by an evil government. That will require the empowerment of the Holy Spirit.

Let us pray fervently for:

  • Pray for the Lord to raise up a full team of people to translate the Bible for the Moken people (The Bible, Psalm 119:7-8).
  • Pray for new believers to have the discipleship they need (The Bible, 2 Timothy 2:1-2).
  • Pray for a full harvest among the Moken people that will spill over to other peoples in Myanmar (The Bible, Matthew 9:37-38).
