Country Information
Mali is a poverty-stricken West African country in the 10/40 Window that traces it’s roots to a once prosperous history. It is home to the ancient and legendary learning center of Timbuktu.
Its culture remains deeply rooted in oral traditions, music, and communal life. Still, Islam became the dominant faith centuries ago, shaping much of Mali’s identity.
Christianity entered Mali later, through Catholic missionaries and Protestant societies in the 19th and 20th centuries, with leaders from French Catholic missions and Protestant groups working to establish schools and churches in key towns. Yet today, Christian teenagers in Mali face overwhelming struggles. They grow up in extreme poverty, often excluded from opportunities due to poor education outreach and a lack of critical infrastructure. They live under the shadow of military coups, political oppression, and media crackdowns. They face intimidation from the rise of Islamic extremism that directly threatens the survival of the Church.
The Malian Church is under threat not only from external persecution but also from its small size, limited resources, and lack of unity. To reverse this condition, Malian Christian Believers must embrace biblical changes—living with courage, rejecting fear, walking in holiness, building unity in Christ, and raising children firmly grounded in the faith despite the hostility around them. They must model integrity and perseverance so future generations inherit a living, uncompromising faith in Christ.
