Mali: Doumbia is one of thousands of individuals currently stranded in Mali, a nation suffering from extreme poverty and insecurity, where 70% of its population, which is at least 22 million, lacks basic literacy skills. The recent funding cuts from USAID coincided with the withdrawal of support from Mali’s other European development partners following the 2021 coup that brought the current junta leader, Assimi Goita, to power. For many, the literacy project represented their sole opportunity for education and empowerment. These skills allow those in economic hardship to generate their own employment, earn a living, or provide for their families.
- Pray with the understanding that God is capable of bringing about positive change and that He can intervene in these situations (The Holy Bible, Psalms 72:12).
- Pray for wisdom and integrity in leaders, both in Mali and in the US, to make decisions that serve the best interests of the people (The Holy Bible, Exodus 14:14).
