Resurgence Of Taliban After Allied Forces Withdraw

America’s longest war in Afghanistan is 20 years old, and allied combatants are showing their battle fatigue by withdrawing troops and in the opinion of some, “abandoning the ship.” U.S. President Biden announced that all American troops would be out by one September. The U.K. and other allies are following suit. McKenzie, the combatant commander who oversees America’s wars in the Middle East told Afghan’s President Ashraf Ghani that “the U.S. would continue to provide airstrikes but made no promise about what will happen after 31 August. The Afghan troops appear to have more fear of the Taliban than loyalty to their country and can’t be depended on to “fill the gap” left by allied forces.

Meanwhile the Taliban continues its relentless “scorched earth” policies of killing defenseless women and children. The United Nations’ children’s agency on Monday said, “at least 27 children have been killed and 136 injured in the past 72 hours alone.”

Afghan interpreters, who were vital to the allied forces, are at the mercy of the Taliban who will be relentless in their pursuit and murder of them and their families. The U.S. military is franticly trying to evacuate them. They can leave the country through a Special Immigrant Visa program which provides for their extraction. The Interpreters assured their rescuers that the Taliban would be relentless in seeking them out no matter how long it took. While in power, the Taliban enforced a hardline version of Islam and women’s lives were strictly controlled. Education was forbidden. The Insurgents offensive has driven thousands of people from their homes. No one wants to see the Islamist regime of 2001 imposed once again.

Let us pray fervently for:

  • Justice to prevail and for this fledgling democracy to withstand  the threats against its stability (The Bible, Proverbs 21:15).
  • President Saied to heed the international outcry against his return to autocratic policies (The Bible, 1 Timothy 2:1-4).
  • The minority Christian community to unite in prayer to Almighty God to intervene in the affairs of men to deter efforts to undermine this fragile democracy (The Bible, Isaiah 59:15-17).

  • God to strengthen and encourage Afghan troops to step up to the plate and ardently defend their helpless and vulnerable towns and citizens against the satanically inspired Taliban fighters (The Bible, 2 Thessalonians 2:16-17).
  • God to supernaturally intervene in the battle as He did when He fought for Israel and slew their enemies  (The Bible, 2 Chronicles 20:20-26)
  • God to confuse the schemes and plans of the Taliban (The Bible, Joshua 10)
