Cyclone Mandous Set To Hit Over Southwest Bay Of Bengal

A weather system over the Bay of Bengal is intensifying and threatening Puducherry and Sriharikota in southeast Andhra Pradesh and is due to make landfall on Thursday morning. A red alert has been issued for the districts of Kancheepuram, Chengalpet, and Villupuram which are likely to experience extremely heavy rainfall. An orange alert has been issued for Chennai, saying to expect heavy to very heavy rainfall in isolated places.

Hopefully, one bit of positive news may offset the dire predictions. Blogger Pradeep John said, “All existing models indicated that the system was likely to weaken before making landfall due to the presence of dry air and increase in wind shear.”

A storm such as this can wreak havoc, especially in low-lying areas, where many homes may be crudely constructed, and not able to withstand strong winds and rain. Thousands of families will be affected by the storm’s effects.

Let us pray fervently for:

  • Minimal loss of life and property (The Bible, Psalm 7:10)
  • Rescue efforts to be speedy and effective (The Bible, Psalm 44:26).
  • The storm may cause many to search their souls and ask themselves if they are at peace with their stance before the Almighty God (The Bible, Psalm 60:5).
