South Sudan faces escalating violence, particularly in Upper Nile State, as recent clashes between security forces and armed groups linked to Vice President Riek Machar threaten the fragile peace established in 2018. The violence, sparked by tensions over disarmament and the White Army militia, has put the country’s power-sharing agreement at risk. The arrest of General Gabriel Duop Lam and other senior officials from South Sudan’s main opposition, is a serious breach of the 2018 peace deal, raising fears of renewed conflict. Uganda deploys forces to protect Juba, while the U.S. evacuates nonessential staff. The UN and African Union have called for an immediate ceasefire, warning of a return to destructive power struggles and urging leaders to focus on peace, human rights, and democratic transition.
Sovereign LORD, we pray for Your divine intervention in South Sudan to end the violence and to bring peace and stability. We cover all the South Sudanese people under the Precious Blood of our LORD Jesus Christ (The Holy Bible, Psalm 57:1).
Lord Holy Spirit, bring oneness among the warring leaders and guide them to rule with justice. Let Your peace reign in all the leaders’ and civilians’ hearts and minds in South Sudan (The Holy Bible, Proverbs 10:12).
