The UN Mission in South Sudan (UNMISS) has increased patrols and engagement with communities amid escalating security issues in Upper Nile State, where clashes between the South Sudan People’s Defense Forces (SSPDF) and Sudan People’s Liberation Movement in Opposition (SPLA-iO) continue, leading to casualties and displacement. Violence is also rising in Warrap and Lakes states, with over 200 deaths reported. However, there is progress in Abyei, where youth leaders from the Ngok Dinka and Twic Dinka communities signed an agreement to cease hostilities, reopen vital routes, and combat misinformation. The UN missions have expressed support for these efforts to foster peace and dialogue between communities in the region.
Praise the LORD for the peace initiative in Abyei, South Sudan. Pray for the strengthening and spreading of the peace agreement throughout the nation (The Holy Bible, Matthew 5:9).
Pray for the LORD to raise up bold mediators to bridge the divisions to end the conflict in South Sudan. Pray for the warring parties to turn away from violence and pursue lasting reconciliation (The Holy Bible, Psalm 37:8).
