Serving the Lord in Muslim Central Asia

To some people, summer means fun and vacations. To others it means an opportunity to serve the Lord in a distant part of the world.

There are several former Soviet republics in Central Asia that are almost entirely Muslim. Efforts to establish the gospel in these countries have been slow. The majority people groups are still unreached with the spiritual truth that they cannot be at peace with God without the blood of Christ as payment for sin.

There are a couple of ways to reach out to these Muslims. In one country (name withheld for security reasons), a group of Christians understand that people will not accept the message unless they offer valuable help. In one case, this means trauma training. People who have experienced trauma need to find God’s way of coping. Christ followers are not just offering trauma counseling but teaching local Christian believers to do the same. Their approach involves the Word of God and art. Some people can express themselves through art in a way that can’t be put into words. Others are helping with economic needs. People in rural Central Asia depend on their livestock. Christ’s ambassadors are offering much-needed veterinarian services. By working with the local people, they can show the character of Christ as they go through daily activities.

Let us pray fervently for:

  • Pray for protection for these short-term workers as they venture into an unknown part of the Muslim world (The Bible, Nehemiah 4:9).
  • Pray for the Holy Spirit to penetrate the hearts of Muslims to understand the value of the King of kings (The Bible, Proverbs 2:2-3).
  • Pray that these short-term efforts will bear long-term fruit (The Bible, John 15:8).
