Maldives: The Ministry of Homeland Security has announced that more than 6,700 migrant workers have been deported from the Maldives. So far, 6,750 foreign nationals have been removed as part of an initiative aimed at identifying illegal migrant workers in the country. The majority of those deported were discovered working in sectors not covered by their work permits.

Immigration authorities are carrying out a number of raids in Male’ City and various islands to locate illegal migrants. The government has consistently stated its dedication to addressing the problem of illegal migration in the Maldives within the next three years.

  • Lord, we pray for the leaders in the Maldives Ministry of Homeland Security to make decisions that are just and compassionate and ensure the safety of the migrants who are deported (The Holy Bible, Exodus 22:21).
  • Lord, we pray for the deported migrants, their economic growth, and opportunities in their home countries so they can build better lives. Pray for the churches in their home countries to offer support, welcome, and resources to deported migrant workers (The Holy Bible, Deuteronomy 24:14).
