France has started removing its troops from Senegal and handed over military facilities following President Bassirou Diomaye Faye’s decision to remove foreign troops. The handover of the Marechal and Saint Exupery districts was completed on March 7, 2025. This follows growing opposition in West Africa against the French military presence, viewed as a remnant of colonialism. Similar moves have occurred in Chad, Niger, and Burkina Faso. France plans to reduce its military presence across Africa. Still, it may continue to offer defense training or support based on each country’s needs.

  • Father, we pray for peace and stability and guide Senegal leaders and people as they shift in military policy ensuring security in the nation (The Holy Bible, John 14:27)
  • Father, we pray for leaders in West Africa to seek Your Guidance in managing security and political relationships (The Holy Bible, Proverbs 3:5-6)
