The Lao government has systematically persecuted ethnic minorities, particularly the Hmong since its one-party communist rule began in 1975. Branded as “hostile dissenters” due to their U.S. alliance during the Vietnam War, the Hmong are denied indigenous status and legal protections. Since the late 1970s, state-led military offensives have killed thousands and displaced around 300,000. Those remaining in areas like Phou Bia face attacks, arrests, enforced disappearances, and extrajudicial killings. Development and Chinese-funded projects have driven land seizures, using tactics like chemical weapons and starvation to displace communities. Survivors are relocated to military-controlled villages, stripped of land rights and livelihoods. Despite international concern, Laos refuses external investigations.

Pray for the LORD’s intervention in Laos to stop the persecution of the Hmong and to bring an end to violence, disappearances, and extrajudicial killings. Pray for divine protection and healing for those who have been displaced, traumatized, and affected by chemical weapons and starvation tactics (The Holy Bible, Job 36:15).

Pray for the international community to rise and fight for the rights and freedom of the Hmong community in Laos. Pray for fair and transparent investigations and prosecution of their persecution. Pray for peace and justice to prevail in the country (The Holy Bible, Proverbs 31:8).
