Burkina Faso’s human rights situation sharply worsened in 2024, with rising violence from Islamist armed groups and abuses by the military and militias. Over 6,000 civilians died in conflict-related violence between January and August, and more than 2.3 million were displaced. The military Junta, which took power in 2022, intensified its crackdown on media, political opposition, and dissent while further shrinking civic space. The Junta also delayed elections, reinstated the death penalty, and withdrew from ECOWAS (Economic Community of West African States) in January 2025, reducing avenues for justice. State forces were responsible for mass killings and disappearances, including executing over 200 civilians in retaliation for Islamist attacks. Accountability remains scarce, and violence continues to escalate.
- Sovereign LORD, we pray for Your divine intervention in the nation of Burkina-Faso. Let Your justice and peace dominate in this country against all suppression from man and the evil one. In the Majestic Name of our Savior, Jesus Christ’s Name, Amen (The Holy Bible, Psalm 9:7-8).
- Merciful Father, bring deliverance for the people of Burkina-Faso and restore hope and peace to them (The Holy Bible, Psalm 34:18).
- Father GOD, we pray for Your divine protection and presence for all the believers in Burkina-Faso from all violence (The Holy Bible, Exodus 14:14).
