In South Sudan’s Greater Upper Nile region, recent airstrikes and clashes between government forces and militia groups have caused devastating civilian casualties. Wiyuach Makuach lost an arm in a hospital bombing while visiting her sick son. Aid groups report dozens of civilians killed or injured, including women and children, as fighting spreads to previously peaceful areas like northern Jonglei State. The government denies targeting civilians, blaming opposition forces for escalating violence. The conflict erupted after a militia attack on a military barracks led to a government offensive supported by Ugandan troops. Improvised incendiary weapons reportedly killed dozens, including children. Medical teams struggle to reach and treat the wounded amid ongoing hostilities. Many displaced residents live in fear of further bombings, constantly moving to avoid attacks. The violence compounds existing humanitarian crises caused by extreme weather, disease, and food insecurity, leaving civilians trapped in relentless conflict and hardship.

GOD of all comforts, have mercy on the people of South Sudan suffering war, extreme weather, food insecurity, and diseases. LORD, restore their destination towards safety and prosperity (The Holy Bible, Psalm 17:9).

Pray for the warring parties in South Sudan to stop violent attacks and to come forward for peace talks. Pray for the LORD’s peace and justice to prevail in the country (The Holy Bible, Psalm 37:8).
