Sarah Williams, a South Sudanese mother of five, fled to Khartoum during South Sudan’s 2013 civil war, only to be uprooted again by Sudan’s conflict in 2023. Now stranded in overcrowded Renk, near the South Sudan border, she and thousands of others face hunger, disease, and uncertainty as renewed violence grips both nations. Fighting between Sudan’s rival generals and renewed tensions between South Sudanese leaders Kiir and Machar threaten a fragile 2018 peace deal. Refugees, including newborns, endure harsh journeys and inadequate medical care, with aid agencies struggling amid global funding cuts. With her hometown, Nasir, a war zone, Sarah has chosen to remain in South Sudan despite the instability, hoping to rebuild amid escalating regional crises.
Sovereign LORD, we plead Your Mercy for Sarah Williams and the countless innocent civilians trapped between conflicts in South Sudan and Sudan. Provide shelter, food, and peace to those who have lost everything and face each day in fear and uncertainty. Strengthen their spirits and lead them to places of safety and restoration (The Holy Bible, Psalm 25:16).
Lord Holy Spirit, break down pride, political rivalry, and violence in South Sudan, and raise leaders who seek peace, justice, and the well-being of their people. We pray that the 2018 peace agreement be restored and upheld by all parties (The Holy Bible, Daniel 2:21).
