Arbitrary detentions in Egypt have become a significant human rights issue, with thousands, including activists, journalists, and political dissidents, detained without trial or due process. These detentions are often justified on national security grounds, with detainees facing prolonged imprisonment, torture, and inhumane conditions in overcrowded prisons. The government has been criticized for restricting freedoms of speech, assembly, and press, further suppressing dissent. A prominent case is Badr Mohamed, who has been imprisoned since 2013 for participating in protests at 17. Badr was convicted in absentia in 2017, retried in 2020, and again sentenced in 2023 following a grossly unfair trial. Amnesty International highlights the unfairness of his trial and calls for the release of all individuals detained for exercising their rights.

Sovereign LORD, we pray for a transformation in the legal system in Egypt. We pray for fair trial and the voices of the innocent for justice to be heard in the nation (The Holy Bible, Isaiah 1:17).

Almighty GOD, we pray for the immediate and unconditional release of Badr Mohamed and other imprisoned rights activists, journalists, political dissidents, and believers. Raise more voices to advocate for their freedom. We pray for more freedom of expression, the press, and religion in Egypt (The Holy Bible, Matthew 19:26).
