TIBET: The recent failure of the newly built 758-meter-long cantilever Red Flag (Ch: Hongqi) bridge in Drakpar (Baowan) Village, located in Barkham (Ma’erkang), Ngaba (Aba) Tibetan Autonomous Prefecture, Sichuan, highlights the serious dangers linked to large-scale infrastructure projects in Tibet. This event shows a significant risk for similar disasters in the future due to China’s extensive and careless hydropower development plans. Fortunately, real-time monitoring noticed slope instability a day before the landslide, which resulted in no injuries during the bridge’s collapse. However, this incident points to a larger problem: approving and building major infrastructure in areas that are geologically unstable and at high risk. China’s construction activities are mainly motivated by political goals and the ambition to fully use Tibetan resources to meet its growing energy needs and eventually become an energy exporter.

  • Pray for God’s protection over the people living in geologically unstable regions of Tibet and surrounding areas. Ask that the Lord safeguard communities from future disasters, provide stability to the land, and grant peace to families who live in fear of similar incidents (The Holy Bible, Nahum 1:7).
  • Pray that leaders, engineers, planners, and government authorities will act with wisdom, integrity, and respect for human life and the environment. Ask God to intervene so that decisions about infrastructure and resource use are guided by justice, truth, and long-term safety rather than political ambition (The Holy Bible, Proverbs 29:4).
