Similar deadly attacks in neighboring Plateau state killed over 100 people this month, with local officials calling it “genocide” and blaming terrorists. Critics argue that the root causes are land disputes, weak governance, and poor policing. Since 2019, over 500 lives have been lost in such clashes, displacing 2.2 million people.
