The United Nations children’s agency has reported that at least 322 children have been killed since Israel began its renewed offensive in Gaza two weeks ago. Additionally, UNICEF has noted that at least 609 other children sustained injuries during this time.
UNICEF Executive Director Catherine Russell stated, “The ceasefire in Gaza offered a critical lifeline for children and a glimmer of hope for recovery. Unfortunately, they have once again been thrust into a cycle of devastating violence and suffering.”
Israel’s renewed offensive began on March 18, citing Hamas’s refusal to accept a new US proposal aimed at extending the ceasefire and releasing the 59 hostages still held in Gaza.
- Father, we pray for the children and families affected by this war. Please calm and comfort them. Give frightened parents discernment about what steps to take to protect their families. Change the hearts of those who cause suffering, and bring an end to all violence (The Holy Bible, Psalms 91).
- Father, we pray for the refugee and displaced children in the Gaza Strip. Send Your Holy Spirit to comfort children who experience trauma because of this war. We fervently pray that there be no more killings of the little ones. Lord, You do not despise little children (The Holy Bible, Matthew 18:10).
