The United Nations has called for an immediate cessation of hostilities between South Sudan’s army and fighters loyal to Deputy President Riek Machar to prevent further deterioration of the country’s fragile security. The UN expressed deep concern over clashes between the South Sudan People’s Defense Forces and the Sudan People’s Liberation Army-In-Opposition (SPLA-IO), which have led to casualties and the displacement of civilians. This marks the first open confrontation since Machar was placed under house arrest by President Salva Kiir last month. The violence follows the overrun of an army base by armed youths in March. The UN urged all military actors to cease conflict, prioritize civilian protection, resolve issues through dialogue, and ensure peacekeepers’ access to support security efforts.

Pray for supernatural impartation of unity and love among the leaders in South Sudan, so they may choose peace over conflict. Pray for peace and justice to prevail in the nation (The Holy Bible, Exodus 14:14).

Pray for divine protection upon all the innocent civilians amidst the violence and harm in South Sudan. Pray for the restoration of peace and stability in the nation (The Holy Bible, Psalm 61:1).
