North and South Korea are engaged in an ongoing “information war,” with South Korea using loudspeakers, radio broadcasts, and smuggled USBs to send pop songs, TV dramas, and educational content to the North. These efforts aim to challenge North Korea’s strict censorship and expose the population to outside realities. Defectors say such content inspired them to escape. However, Kim Jong Un’s regime is cracking down harder, strengthening borders, punishing media consumption harshly, and deploying “youth crackdown squads.” Recent U.S. aid cuts, including to broadcasters like VOA and Radio Free Asia, have further weakened efforts. Activists fear North Korea is gaining ground but remain hopeful that the spread of foreign media, though risky, will continue to influence minds and ultimately push for change from within. As funding questions loom, many argue that information, not military force, is the best tool for transforming North Korea.

Pray for the end of dictatorship in North Korea. Pray for the North Korean leader to uphold the rights and freedom of the citizens (The Holy Bible, Job 36:15).

Pray for the North Koreans to have opportunities to hear about Jesus, their Savior, through this information smuggling from South Korea. Pray for the North Koreans to be receptive to the Gospel (The Holy Bible, 2 Timothy 4:2).
