Pakistan: After an earthquake struck, thousands of inmates at Karachi’s Malir Jail broke down doors, unlocked their cells, and smashed windows as they felt the tremors. According to police, 80 of the escaped prisoners have been recaptured, while searches continue for over 130 who remain at large. One inmate was killed during the operation, and two prison officers were injured. A prison superintendent informed the BBC that inmates started shouting from their cells and barracks around midnight, fearing that the building might collapse on them.

  • Lord, we pray for the safety and protection of the inmates who escaped during the earthquake, that they may be guided back to safety and that justice may prevail. Ask for divine intervention for those who remain at large, that they may find a way to return peacefully and without harm (The Holy Bible, Psalms 91:11).
  • Lord, we pray for the healing and recovery of the injured prison officers and for the families affected by this incident. May God provide comfort and strength to all those involved, including families of inmates and prison staff, during this challenging time (The Holy Bible, Matthew 11:28).
