Niger’s junta has released over 50 detainees, including former ministers of defense, oil, and finance, as well as senior army officers, following recommendations from a February national conference. Among those freed are former ministers Mahamane Sani Issoufou, Kalla Moutari, Ahmat Jidoud, and Ibrahim Yacoubou, along with a diplomat, journalist, and soldiers previously convicted for attempting coups in 2010 and 2015. However, ousted President Mohamed Bazoum remains under house arrest, facing charges of high treason and undermining national security. The release is seen as a move to foster reconciliation and gain popular support. Since the 2023 coup, Niger’s junta, led by Gen Abdourahmane Tchiani, has strengthened ties with Russia, severed relations with France, and withdrawn from ECOWAS.
Praise GOD for the release of detainees by the junta in Niger. Pray for peace and reconciliation among the political leaders in the nation. Pray for justice to prevail in the country (The Holy Bible, Deuteronomy 32:4).
Pray for wise counsel for the authorities to lead the nation toward peace, justice, and prosperity during this period of political transition (The Holy Bible, Psalm 72:4).
