Senegal: The natural gas initiative, a collaboration between British energy company BP and U.S.-based Kosmos Energy, commenced operations on December 31, 2024. It is designed to create employment opportunities for the densely populated fishing community of Guet Ndar, located near the historic colonial capital of Saint Louis. This gas extraction facility, the deepest in Africa, aims to revitalize Senegal’s struggling economy following the discovery of oil and gas off the coast more than ten years ago. Additionally, the first offshore oil project was launched last year.
