The ongoing protests by teachers in Kathmandu are drawing attention, as the government has reached out for dialogue to address their concerns.
The Ministry of Education, Science, and Technology made a public appeal, encouraging teachers to participate in discussions. Ministry spokesperson Shiv Kumar Sapkota emphasized the government’s willingness to engage constructively, stating, “We warmly welcome representatives to the ministry.” He underscored the urgency of endorsing the School Education Bill, which is currently pending in the House of Representatives.
Teachers from across the nation initiated their demonstrations, advocating for immediate action on the School Education Bill. However, with the Parliament session having been prorogued since Tuesday midnight, the possibility of a swift endorsement seems dim.
It remains to be seen how the dialogue will unfold and if it will provide a pathway to resolve these critical issues.
- Let’s join in prayer for the government and the teachers in Nepal to have a fruitful dialogue in passing the education bill. May the proposed bill be thoughtfully crafted, well supported, and passed by law (The Holy Bible, Proverbs 1:7).
- Father, we pray for those in power to be guided in wisdom and compassion and to be committed in their work where only truth and learning would be their focus (The Holy Bible, Colossians 3:23).
