The charges stemmed from allegations of insulting public authorities and spreading false information. Abdelmoumni, a human rights advocate and critic of the government, has faced years of harassment, including surveillance and invasion of privacy. His conviction is part of a broader crackdown on free speech, with many journalists and activists detained for peaceful expression.
