This comes in response to claims that allegations regarding his son’s extravagant lifestyle are being used to steer the country back toward authoritarianism. Since 1992, Mongolia has maintained a parliamentary democracy, navigating a delicate position between the powerful influences of Russia and China. This clash has been coming for more than a year because the next presidential election is in 2027. The controversy is dividing the ruling Mongolian People’s Party into two camps.
