The Indonesian government will take swift action to investigate and address reports concerning companies that are producing or distributing rice inconsistent with the quantities and qualities mentioned on their labels. This announcement was made by Deputy Minister of Trade Dyah Roro Esti Widya Putri.
Putri emphasized that the Ministry of Trade is dedicated to monitoring the distribution and ensuring the quality standards of essential items, particularly rice and cooking oil, due to their importance to the public. Rice is a fundamental food source in Indonesia.
She highlighted that the Food Task Force, which includes the National Police and other government agencies, holds the authority to enforce laws aimed at preventing fraud, including the possibility of legal actions against violators.
- Lord, we pray for the Indonesian government to bring effective implementation and enforcement of food safety laws, ensuring that businesses comply with standards (The Holy Bible, Proverbs 21:3).
- Lord, we pray for God’s protection on the poor, needy, and children in Indonesia from all foodborne illnesses and other hazards while they face a lack in their basic rights (The Holy Bible, Psalm 12:5).
