Maldives: The Ministry of Education has terminated contracts with 18 companies that were awarded projects in the education sector. Education Minister Dr. Ismail Shafeeu explained that the contracts were canceled because the companies did not complete the projects despite being given several chances. These projects will now be reassigned to other firms.
Minister Shafeeu noted that when he assumed office, the government had an outstanding debt of MVR 280 million to contractors involved in education projects, but most of this debt was cleared last year.
He also mentioned that there are currently 20 companies that are not meeting project completion expectations. These companies will be further evaluated, and their contracts will be terminated if necessary. Additionally, Shafeeu announced that 3,740 classrooms in government schools are set to have air-conditioning units installed by September of this year.

  • Lord, we pray for the Ministry of Education in the Maldives; help them in the completion of all the contracts and projects assigned in the welfare of children. We ask for Your guidance and counsel for all those who are involved in decision-making and implementation of the process (The Holy Bible, Philippians 4:13).
  • Lord, we pray for all students in the Maldives; bless them with their learning, inspire them to be truthful, and help them be responsible (The Holy Bible, Proverbs 1:5).
