A huge explosion happened at Shahid Rajaee port, Iran’s biggest commercial port, near Bandar Abbas. At least 14 people died and around 750 were injured. The blast broke windows, damaged buildings, and was felt up to 50km away. The fire started in a warehouse full of chemicals and spread from one container to another. Officials said the containers held rocket fuel and other flammable materials.
The cause was believed to be poor handling of solid fuel meant for missiles. An Iran-flagged ship had brought rocket fuel to the port earlier this year. Schools and offices nearby were closed after the disaster. Authorities had already warned the port before about unsafe chemical storage.
Abba Father, we ask You to heal all those who are hurt, physically and emotionally, from this terrible explosion. Comfort the families who are grieving and give strength to the injured (The Bible, Psalm 147:3).
Lord, please give wisdom to all officials and workers in Iran, that they would handle dangerous materials safely and prevent further tragedy (The Bible, Proverbs 2:6).
