During Chinese President Xi Jinping’s visit to Hanoi, China and Vietnam agreed to move forward with developing new cross-border railway links, focusing on infrastructure cooperation. They signed a deal for feasibility studies on two proposed lines: one connecting China’s Guangxi region to Hanoi and another from Shenzhen to Vietnam’s Haiphong port. These studies will cost approximately $1.36 million and are to be completed within 12 months of contractor selection. A third coastal railway linking Vietnam to Kunming, China, is set to begin construction this year. Historical mistrust and incompatible rail systems have long delayed progress, but economic needs are now taking priority. Vietnam’s leader, To Lam, emphasized that rail development is a top priority, urging China to offer concessional loans.
Pray for the LORD to expose the hidden motives behind financial agreements that would burden Vietnam with a debt trap. Pray for wisdom, discernment, and courage for all Vietnamese leaders to make the right decisions as they pursue infrastructure partnerships (The Holy Bible, Proverbs 22:3).
Pray for just and sustainable development in Vietnam. Pray for the success of the efforts of the authorities to improve the lives and livelihoods of the civilians in the country (The Holy Bible, Psalm 72:12).
