A deepening humanitarian crisis is unfolding in Afghanistan as neighboring countries, particularly Pakistan and Iran, deport or pressure tens of thousands of Afghans to return. In April alone, over 280,000 Afghans were forced out, many arriving in Afghanistan with nothing. Afghan people who are born and raised in neighboring countries now face an uncertain future in a country they’ve never known, struggling with extreme poverty, high unemployment, and limited support. Women, girls, minorities, and human rights advocates are especially vulnerable under increasing restrictions and security threats. Afghanistan’s acute humanitarian needs are intensifying while international aid continues to dwindle. The UN Refugee Agency (UNHCR) has launched an emergency response, seeking nearly $60 million to deliver cash aid, food, shelter, mental health support, and services for at-risk groups. Without swift global support, the lives of millions of returning Afghans hang in the balance.
Pray for the international authorities to take action to stop the forced deportation of Afghan people from Pakistan and Iran. Pray for the authorities to take immediate action to protect the rights and freedoms of the Afghan people living abroad (The Holy Bible, Proverbs 28:21).
Pray for divine protection and provision for all the Afghan returnees, especially women and girls. Pray for more employment opportunities and improved livelihoods for all the returnees to Afghanistan. (The Holy Bible, 1 Chronicles 4:10).
