SOMALIA: The Somali NGO Consortium (SNC) is sounding the alarm about the quickly worsening drought situation, warning that a humanitarian disaster is on the horizon. This comes as international funding sharply declines while the need for help grows. The Integrated Food Security Classification (IPC) reports that the drought is pushing 3.4 million people in Somalia into serious food insecurity. From October to December 2025, the food security conditions are predicted to get worse because seasonal rainfall is expected to be lower than normal. With below-average rain and high food prices, 4.4 million people—about 23 percent of the population—will likely face serious food insecurity. Between July 2025 and June 2026, around 1.85 million children aged 6 to 59 months are expected to suffer from acute malnutrition and will need immediate treatment. This includes about 421,000 children who may experience Severe Acute Malnutrition (SAM) and approximately 1.43 million who might have Moderate Acute Malnutrition (MAM).
- Pray that God will intervene with timely rain, food provision, and sustained humanitarian support for Somalia. Ask the Lord to move the hearts of international partners and donors to respond generously so that the growing needs of millions facing food insecurity are met and lives are preserved (The Holy Bible, Psalm 85:12).
- Pray for God’s mercy and healing over children suffering from acute malnutrition, especially those facing Severe Acute Malnutrition (SAM). Ask for strength for families, wisdom and resources for health workers, and successful treatment that will restore life and hope to these children (The Holy Bible, Psalm 82:3).
