INDONESIA: Rescuers faced challenges on Friday due to damaged roads and bridges, as well as a shortage of heavy equipment, after flash floods and landslides hit Indonesia’s Sumatra island. These disasters resulted in 79 fatalities and many people still unaccounted for. The tropical cyclone that caused this destruction is predicted to continue affecting the Southeast Asian country for several days, according to Indonesia’s Meteorology, Climatology, and Geophysical Agency. Monsoon rains led to rivers overflowing in North Sumatra province on Tuesday. The intense flooding swept through mountain villages, carried away residents, and inundated over 3,200 homes and buildings, reported the National Disaster Management Agency. Approximately 3,000 displaced families sought refuge in government shelters.

  • Pray that God will comfort the families mourning the 79 lives lost and strengthen the thousands who have been displaced. Ask that His peace calms their fears and His presence sustains them through this painful season (The Holy Bible, Psalm 107:25).
  • Pray for rescuers facing damaged roads, destroyed bridges, and limited equipment. Ask God to give them wisdom, safety, and supernatural strength as they search for the missing. Pray also that weather conditions will stabilize to allow faster relief (The Holy Bible, Isaiah 43:2).
