GAZA STRIP: A freed Palestinian detainee was filled with joy when he discovered that his family was alive after thinking they had been killed. Shadi Abu Sido shared with the BBC that a prison officer had deceived him by saying his family had died and that their home had been bombed. However, upon arriving in Gaza, he was thrilled to be reunited with his family.
The photojournalist mentioned that he was detained while covering a story at al-Shifa hospital in March of last year. Mr. Sido spent 20 months in an Israeli prison and was one of nearly 2,000 prisoners released in exchange for Israeli hostages as part of the first phase of a ceasefire deal arranged by the US. Israel’s prison service stated they followed the law and were not aware of any such incidents occurring.
- Lord, we thank You for the safe reunion of Shadi Abu Sido with his family. We pray for healing for those who have been affected by conflict, trauma, and loss. May Your love and peace surround them as they rebuild their lives together (The Holy Bible, Isaiah 41:10).
- Lord, we ask for Your guidance and wisdom for leaders and nations involved in peace negotiations. May justice prevail, and may the hearts of all involved be turned towards reconciliation and the pursuit of lasting peace (The Holy Bible, Psalm 85:10).
