Somalia: A suicide car bomb attack aimed at a convoy near Afgoye town in the Lower Shabelle region resulted in the deaths of at least 14 Ugandan peacekeepers and six Somali soldiers as they initiated an offensive to reclaim important towns from Al-Shabaab. However, their attempts were met with strong resistance from the militants. Additionally, Al-Shabaab is said to have destroyed crucial bridges in Sabiid and Barire to prevent African Union forces from regaining control of three strategic towns near the capital that the group had captured in recent months.

  • Lord, we pray for the families and loved ones of the Ugandan peacekeepers and Somali soldiers who lost their lives in the attack. May they find comfort and strength in their time of grief, and may God’s peace surround them (The Holy Bible, 1 Corinthians 1:3-4).
  • Lord, we pray for protection over the African Union forces as they continue to combat the threat posed by Al-Shabaab and work towards restoring peace in the affected areas. May God grant them wisdom, strength, and courage in their mission (The Holy Bible, Isaiah 32:17).
