Divisions exist within Taliban leadership on Afghan women’s education. Deputy Foreign Minister Sher Mohammad Abbas Stanikzai announced publicly that there was no basis for excluding education for women and girls, praising their right to learn. Taliban officials in certain areas have even provided medical courses for female students. Nonetheless, despite these opinions, the Taliban’s highest leader, Hibattulah Akhundzada, has held firm in imposing stringent limitations on women’s education. Even though negotiations have allegedly been conducted among Taliban leaders, the highest leader’s position has resulted in ongoing restrictions on women’s education.

Pray for the transformation of the mind and heart of the Taliban’s supreme leader and others in positions of influence within the Taliban to uphold the rights and freedom of women and girls in Afghanistan (The Holy Bible, Proverbs 21:1).

Pray for unity and harmony among the Taliban authorities to ensure that all Afghan women and girls have the opportunity to learn and thrive (The Holy Bible, Matthew 12:25).
