South Sudan, the world’s newest and one of its poorest nations, is in the grip of a deep crisis, UN Secretary-General Antonio Guterres has said. Civil war erupted in 2013 after South Sudan gained independence from Sudan in 2011, and although a peace deal was signed in 2018, recent developments, including the arrest of opposition leader Riek Machar and rising violence, risk tearing the peace process apart. The nation is facing various crises: political instability, humanitarian crisis, food shortages, economic meltdown, and large-scale displacement, with millions requiring aid. Guterres appealed for peace, asking South Sudanese leaders to put their people first and reunite, and asked for international assistance to prevent further devastation.

Pray for the spirit of reconciliation and the spirit of oneness among the leaders in South Sudan. Pray for the end of the violence and restoration of stability in the country (The Holy Bible, Psalm 82:3).

Pray for the LORD’s intervention in South Sudan to thwart the evil-doers and their plans and to protect all the civilians in the country. Pray for the divine provision for all the South Sudanese families (The Holy Bible, Zechariah 2:8).
