Senegal’s media has been fighting fake news for a couple of years now. Misinformation and disinformation have been accelerated at speed deliberately causing harm in society. Specialists in media and communication conducted a survey to combat misinformation. The research shed light on the various loopholes in the media houses. There has been evidence for a lack of cross-checking of news, fact-checking, and those on perception, verifying, and literacy within the media. In addition to creating fact-checking desks in newsrooms and raising public awareness of the dangers of misinformation, promoting media literacy at all levels (media, mosques, churches, businesses, schools, and universities) should be a priority. Organizing media weeks at school, as France does, could be a step toward that goal.

  • Father, we pray that the steps taken by the Senegal government by having fact-checking desks in newsrooms will bring a strong message to all miscreants and raise public awareness of its dangers (The Holy Bible, Ephesians 4:19).
  • Father, we pray for discernment of truth and integrity in reporting and seek God’s guidance for those involved in the industry (The Holy Bible, Matthew 24:4).
