BANGLADESH:A coalition of left-leaning student organisations under the banner of Gonotantrik Chhatra Jote staged a protest march toward the Ministry of Foreign Affairs in Bangladesh, demanding the cancellation of the Bangladesh-US trade agreement. Leaders from several student groups claimed the agreement was unequal and would negatively impact sectors such as poultry, dairy, pharmaceuticals, agriculture, and industry. The protesters also criticized the government for prioritizing the purchase of Boeing aircraft despite ongoing energy shortages, a measles outbreak, vaccine shortages, and issues in the healthcare sector. They accused successive governments of following submissive foreign policies toward powerful nations and alleged that the interim government signed the agreement shortly before elections to satisfy foreign interests. The current BNP government, Foreign Minister Khalilur Rahman, and Bangladesh Jamaat-e-Islami were also criticized for supporting or remaining silent about the agreement and national health concerns.
Abba Father, grant the leaders of Bangladesh wisdom, integrity, and justice to make decisions that protect the people and the nation’s future. Amen (The Holy Bible, Psalm 72:1).
Lord, bring peace among political groups, students, and citizens, and help the nation pursue unity instead of division. Amen (The Holy Bible, Matthew 5:9).
