Day 25

Kazakhstan

PRAYER FOR THIS COUNTRY

Kazakhstan has traditionally been one of Russia’s closest allies, but Kazakhstan has not supported Russia’s war in Ukraine, choosing instead to support Western sanctions, and send aid to Ukraine. 80 percent of Kazakhstan’s oil normally is exported via pipelines that Russia controls and has prevented Kazakhstan from using in recent months. However, Kazakhstan has found a possible alternative using an Azerbaijan operated pipeline instead. Former Russian president, Dmitry Medvedev, made a social media post suggesting northern Kazakhstan could be invaded next, but it was quickly withdrawn. Pray protection over the Central Asian nations and ask God to give them wisdom and courage to stand up to Russia. May this be a new beginning in a season of even greater autonomy for these nations. Pray for an openness to the Gospel (The Bible, Proverbs 25:25).

MORE ABOUT THIS COUNTRY

A large country the size of Western Europe, Kazakhstan is the world’s leading uranium producer and the economic leader of Central Asia. Soviet-era nuclear testing and toxic waste dumping plague the nation as well as elevating drug addiction levels and HIV/Aids rates. Islam had a resurgence after the Soviet era, but more legal restrictions are being imposed on all religious groups. Unregistered Protestant churches and their Believers suffer the most persecution. Political instability and infighting between the ruling party and opposition groups have been the mark of the last two years.

Oman

PRAYER FOR THIS COUNTRY

An attempt to smuggle a large haul of the drug cannabis into the country has been thwarted by Omni police. The General Department of Narcotics and Psychotropic Substances Control, in cooperation with the Coast Guard Police, arrested two people while they were unloading 73kg of cannabis on a beach in Muscat Governorate. It is the latest in several seizures forming part of the government’s efforts to raise awareness and prevent the spread of controlled substances. A forum in Dhofar recently discussed the issue of controlled substances in Oman. The event explored the types of substances being brought into the country, as well as the reasons for the use and the effects of their abuse. Pray for young people to shun evil ways of living and submit to God for a decent new lifestyle (The Bible, Romans 6:23).

MORE ABOUT THIS COUNTRY

Oman is listed in 20th position in the World Watch report 2021 by Open Doors for Christian persecution. The Sultan of Oman is Haitham bin Tariq Al. The standard of living improved dramatically due to the discovery of oil. Omanis highly respect their Sultan and have enjoyed peace and prosperity under his leadership. Morden technology has vastly changed the lifestyles of Omanis. Smartphones, the internet, and social media command a great deal of the time of young and older Omanis. Oman’s population has doubled in the past 25 years and around 50% of the population is under 16 years of age. Traditional family structures are also changing. The conservative and traditional nature of Oman’s Islamic society, combined with material comfort, results in much resistance to the Gospel.
