A new study by the Malaysian Institute of Road Safety Research (MIROS) found that over the past six years, at least 1,457 people have died in accidents involving lorries and trailers. Most of these deadly crashes happened on highways. On average, one person dies every 36 hours in such accidents. The study showed that speeding, carrying too much weight, poor vehicle maintenance, and tired drivers are major reasons for these accidents. Road safety expert Datuk Mohamad Hisham Shafe said that mechanical problems in lorries and ignoring safety rules are still big problems. This shows that many companies are not serious enough about keeping their vehicles safe, and stricter rules and better enforcement are needed to protect lives on the road.
Father Father, we lift up those affected by tragic road accidents, and we ask for Your protection over all who travel, especially those driving heavy vehicles. Stir the hearts of transport operators and drivers to prioritize safety, responsibility, and the lives of others. In Jesus’ name. Amen (The Bible, Psalm 82:4).
Lord, we pray for wisdom for policymakers, authorities, and those in the transport industry. May they act urgently to fix what is broken, enforce safety measures, and prevent more lives from being lost. Let justice and compassion lead to real change. In Jesus’ name. Amen (The Bible, Proverbs 31:9).
