North Korea’s post-Korean War healthcare system is badly underfunded and inefficient, with extensive access problems as a result of the country’s prioritization of military growth over the public good. The system runs on a three-tier model, providing primary care in local clinics, specialized treatment in provincial hospitals, and difficult cases in national hospitals in Pyongyang. Yet, it has serious challenges, such as persistent shortages of resources, poor medical supplies, and limited human resources. Infrastructure is outdated, and most facilities are without the comforts of modernity, resulting in poor quality care. Economic pressures, global sanctions, and the effect of very strict COVID-19 measures have increased food insecurity and restricted access to medicine, most notably among women who are the main family breadwinners. Despite all these problems, the government admits the necessity of enhancing healthcare quality and availability, but the improvement is slow.
Pray that the LORD GOD opens doors for safe and effective aid supplies to reach those in dire need in North Korea. Pray for the divine provision of the physical and spiritual needs of all the people in the country (The Holy Bible, Psalm 50:15).
Pray for an improved healthcare system in North Korea. Pray that all citizens would have access to quality medical care, with fairness and without partiality (The Holy Bible, Leviticus 19:15).
