MALAYSIA: Ahmad Zahid Hamidi announced that the Malaysia government is considering a new law that would legally require children to care for their ageing parents. The proposal aims to strengthen filial responsibility and preserve the nation’s moral and social values. Zahid has directed the Ministry of Women, Family, and Community Development to prepare a policy paper within six months before it is presented to the Cabinet for approval. He said the government will study similar laws from other countries while ensuring any Malaysian framework aligns with local culture, religious beliefs, and social conditions. Zahid stressed that caring for parents is an important value shared across races and religions and warned against losing moral and spiritual responsibilities amid national development.
Heavenly Father, help families to love, respect, and care for their ageing parents with kindness and patience. Strengthen family bonds and fill homes with compassion and understanding. Amen (The Holy Bible, Exodus 20:12).
God, help society to value compassion, responsibility, and respect for elders. May material progress never replace love, faith, and moral duty. Amen (The Holy Bible, Philippians 2:3).
