During the initial eight months of 2024, more than 28,000 women in Tehran applied for medical check-ups because of violent injuries, most of which were caused by domestic violence. Iran’s judicial system, however, does not criminalize domestic violence, rendering victims unprotected. A proposed law to combat gender-based violence is stuck, and there are only 17 shelters for battered women across the country. Cultural attitudes, economic hardship, and lack of legal support contribute to the problem. The absence of significant legal reform and resources for victims leaves many women in Iran vulnerable to ongoing abuse.
Pray for the legal system in Iran to stand up for the rights and freedom of women in the country and bring an end to violence in any form against women. Pray for a change in society so that the dignity and worth of women will be recognized and upheld in the country (The Holy Bible, Proverbs 31:8).
Father GOD, we pray that the cry of Your daughters in Iran reaches Your Throne. We pray for Your intervention in the lives of the Iranian women facing violence and rejection. Let there be a transformation in their lives (The Holy Bible, Psalm 56:8-9).
