The United Nations has warned that South Sudan is close to falling back into full-scale war. Nearly 2,000 civilians have been killed in rising violence this year, with more than 1,600 injured, hundreds abducted, and many cases of sexual violence. The real numbers may be even higher due to limited access. Fighting has sharply increased since March, with government airstrikes hitting populated areas and destroying homes, schools, and clinics. Ethnic and clan-based violence has also grown, especially in Warrap and Jonglei states, causing more deaths and displacement. The UN also reported at least 45 killings by security forces. There are fears that the 2018 peace deal, which ended a five-year civil war, may soon collapse. The UN is urging South Sudan’s leaders and the international community to act quickly to prevent another war. The rights chief also called for a fair trial for the suspended Vice President, who faces serious charges.
Oh LORD, our GOD, have mercy on the innocent civilians in South Sudan and speak Your divine peace to this nation in the Mighty Name of Jesus Christ, Amen (The Holy Bible, Psalm 85:8).
Pray for a peaceful resolution to the political instability in South Sudan. Pray for unity and justice to prevail in the nation (The Holy Bible, Proverbs 21:15).
