In Niger, many people, including refugees, displaced families, and those in faraway areas, face the problem of statelessness. Statelessness means people do not have a legal nationality or official documents like birth certificates or ID cards. Without legal papers, they cannot go to school, get health care, or find work easily. To fix this, Niger’s government and the UN Refugee Agency (UNHCR) started ‘the Global Alliance to End Statelessness’. This program helps people get official documents and protects their rights. Since 2019, Niger has given out over 140,000 birth certificates and thousands of ID cards, especially to children and displaced people. The program works closely with local communities and government offices to bring services closer to those in need. The goal is to make sure everyone is counted and recognized by the state.
Pray for the success of the efforts of the government of Niger and the UN to uphold the right to nationality and legal identity of the people living in Niger. Pray for the end of statelessness in the country (The Holy Bible, Psalm 20:2).
Pray for all the Nigeriens to have access to education, health care, job opportunities, and other basic needs and rights. (The Holy Bible, Psalm 72:12).
