Senior Minister Ly Thuch of Cambodia met with Enrico Gaveglia, the new UNDP Representative, to talk about the serious danger of unexploded bombs left in the country. These bombs are found in schools, health centers, and farmland, putting people’s lives at risk. Thuch asked UNDP to help find more resources for clearing the bombs and making it safe for displaced families to return home. The Cambodian Mine Action and Victim Assistance Authority will soon start an Emergency Response Programme to get help from other countries, partners, and donors. Prime Minister Hun Manet has also made mine clearance a priority, especially along the borders, to turn them into safe and peaceful areas for development. UNDP said it is preparing a new project to continue the “Clearing for Results” programme, which has already cleared more than 407 square kilometers of land since 2006 and helped about 1.3 million people. Cambodia hopes to be completely free of landmines by 2030.

Abba Father, protect the communities still living under the threat of hidden dangers. Bring healing to victims and restore their lands for safe living. In Jesus’ name. Amen (The Holy Bible, Psalm 34:18).

Lord, bless Cambodia’s efforts to turn border areas into zones of cooperation and development. Grant wisdom and strength to leaders, workers, and organizations clearing the mines. Provide the resources needed to restore peace and safety (The Holy Bible, Isaiah 2:4).
